It’s hard to understand mental illness and how those with it cope. Mental illnesses come in many shapes and sizes, but the one thing they all have in common is that they are difficult to deal with. I’m no expert on mental health myself, but I’ve done my research over the years and compiled a list of some ways you can help yourself or someone else get through a tough time when their mind isn’t where it should be.

Coping Techniques: Mental Illness

As mental health becomes a bigger talking point in the news, many people are left wondering what they can do to take care of their own. Mental health is just as important as physical health, and it’s important to be proactive when it comes to maintaining your mental wellbeing. Better yet, you don’t need any fancy equipment or years of training – all you need is this list!

1.The first thing to do is talk about your feelings with someone you trust. Sharing your thoughts and feelings can be a huge step in the right direction. You might feel silly admitting that you are feeling sad, but not talking doesn’t make it any better. Find people who will listen without judgment or criticism. They say “two heads are better than one” for good reason! Talking things out helps us find solutions we could never have imagined on our own – plus getting everything off of our chest feels so much better afterwards too!

2. Another important way to cope is by staying active in some way every day, even if this means taking short walks around the block or going outside for fresh air during lunch break (the weather’s been nice lately!). This will help decrease your stress levels, and improve your overall mood.

3. Another important thing to remember is that self-care can be anything! Selfcare is not just about looking after yourself physically – being kind to yourself also includes taking time for you mentally as well. Try meditating or reading a book unrelated to the stresses in your life. Whatever you find helps calm you down: do it regularly!

4. Practice mindfulness by focusing on the present moment with an open mind and accepting thoughts without judgment for wellbeing

5. Meditation differs from other techniques because focus is not about relaxation but rather acceptance of thought patterns without judgement while developing kindness towards oneself; practice will remove negative emotions such as anger/stress, increase empathy, and boost self-esteem

6. Exercise is another great way to reduce stress because it releases endorphins which are natural feel-good chemicals in your brain as well as improve sleep quality due to improved muscle recovery from activity; you don’t need any fancy equipment or years of training for exercise either!

Doing these things on their own might seem like they don’t make much of an impact, but over time these small changes grow into big improvements in how we feel and act. Get started today by picking out one coping technique from this post and trying it out!
